I took the time to learn the sponge method. A large grouting sponge works great to smooth the skim coat out.

wouldn't you just be weakening/narrowing the pipe as you pull the ferrule off? Once the ferrule has been seated, it's a smaller diameter than the OD of the copper pipe. Good tool info to have in your arsenal, but I agree with leaving the old one on and screwing it into the new valve unless that doesn't work for some reason.

Just replaced a stop valve on a toilet cistern with the pipe making a right angle bend right at the joint. No way there was room to even get the ferrule off the end of the pipe, let alone use any type of puller. Put the new valve in, tightened up the joint and gave it an extra eighth of a turn till it bit hard. No leaks whatsoever. Yes I could have probably got to it with a Dremmel tool it it hadn’t worked, but don’t fix what isn’t broken.

So the point isn't bigger, just stronger and longer lasting.

My long departed Father in Law was a plumber in the days of lead pipe. Most places didn't have a drain down so to empty a system he would drill a small hole in a low point. After the job he would fill the hole using a matchstick. A few months later he would be called to fix a small leak ! He also taught his daughter (my wife) to wipe joints, many plumbers today don't even know what that means.

Fixture will look nice with teeth marks . Licensed plumbers use flat jaw or adjustable wrenches . Remake the video and show it correctly

I had a very angry ferrel in my basement i could not get it out for weeks, it leaked all over the floor and made a awful smell. In the end i had to leave basment door open and buy some cat food by the exit door to outside. That did the trick that Cat was gone!

Lovely new tap and you ruin its plated finish by using a Stilson wrench with those massive aggressive jaws. Not professional behavior!

Yes, it can be dirty at times, but you won't end up with $100,000 in debt at 22 years old, right out of college. You will own a house at 22 years old instead!!

I've always just used channellocks grabbed ferrule and gently removed it !

Retired plumber of 48 years, never needed anything like that, though I do have a handle puller which looks similar to your second tool. I also seriously doubt plumbers hate you. More than likely most plumbers like you. Getting amateur DIY's in over there heads are great for the service industry.

I don't think using a pipe wrench on a chrome fitting is a good idea! Two adjustable standard wrenches would be better at a minimum you could even use an F clamp

You rarely pull a ferrel. A new shutoff valve will work with the existing ferrel and nut.

why not just put a new shut off on using existing feral and compression nut
